Galaxy S5 Unboxing and Review!

Galaxy S5 has been released officially couple days ago and I have finally got my hands on the latest Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch screen with full 1080P screen with Gorilla Glass 3, which is basically identical to Galaxy S4 but with slightly larger screen this year. The Super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S5 is noticeably brighter than the S4 (in real life) and this may help you see the screen better in the sun.

As far as performance, Galaxy S5 packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5Ghz processor, which is the fastest mobile processor on the market “right now”. If you are hungry for the fastest phone in the world, you can’t go wrong with the Galaxy S5.

Galaxy S5 pretty much has all of the major features from Galaxy S4 and Note 3, meaning you will get all of the cool features like Multi-window, Smart Stay, Air View, pedometer, remote control, and more. Galaxy S5 does add couple more features to its already-abundant number of features with its fingerprint sensor, heart beat monitor, ultra battery-saving mode (where your phone turns into a dumb phone to get a week of battery life from 50%).

Perhaps the biggest feature on the Galaxy S5?  It’s now dust-proof and waterproof with IP67 rating, which means you can dunk it in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes.  Just like the Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S5 allows you to listen to music while taking a shower, accidentally drop in toilet, and wash your phone along your dishes to clean all that bacteria away.  (Did you know smartphones that are not cleaned daily may contain more bacteria/germs than your average toilet seat?)

The Ultra Power Saving mode on the Galaxy S5 is certainly a great step forward for taking those important phone calls when your battery is low.  It essentially turns your phone into a dumb phone and allow you to get 20-30 times more battery life.  Although I probably wouldn’t use this feature (as I usually carry an extra battery) but this may be a life saver for those of you unprepared for the worst.

Heart Beat Monitor on the Galaxy S5 is an excellent way to measure your heart beat accurately and without carrying an extra device in your pocket while running, jogging, biking, etc…etc…  This isn’t a feature everyone needs but it can certainly be handy for those of you active around the clock.

Galaxy S5 also features USB 3.0, which means you will be able to re-charge your phone and transfer files 2-3 times quicker than USB 2.0 devices.  This is also backward-compatible with USB 2.0, so you can have the best of both worlds.   Bluetooth 4.0 is also on-board, giving you even more power savings.

Overall, Galaxy S5 is an excellent choice for those of you who want the best and latest without sacrificing the size of your pocket, especially if you are coming from an older/smaller-screen phones like Galaxy S3/iPhone 4S and your contract has ended.

For those of you with a Galaxy S4, Note 3, or HTC One, I would definitely wait for the “next big thang”, which probably will be the next Note 4, S5, or the next HTC One.
