How to Unroot OnePlus 6 using Stock Firmware & TWRP!

In this unroot tutorial, I am going to show you how to unroot the OnePlus 6 using stock firmware & TWRP.  For this method to work, obviously you will need to have TWRP recovery installed.  If you don’t  have TWRP recovery installed, you can use the fastboot unroot method.  Also, there is another hard brick unroot method, which I should have a tutorial on soon.

IMPORTANT: Flashing stock firmware on your OnePlus 6 will ERASE EVERYTHING!  PLEASE make a backup of EVERYTHING before preceding.   You can also make a TWRP backup of your ROM and copy over the TWRP directory to your computer or USB flash drive if you want to restore your ROM later down the road.

First, download the stock firmware you want to install at our OnePlus 6 Stock Firmwares page.(Right now there is only 1 firmware but I will update the page in the future as newer firmwares come available)

You can download it straight to your OnePlus 6 or download on your computer and copy over.  Or you can even use an OTG cable along with USB Flash Drive so it doesn’t take up space.

Here’s how to easily unroot your OnePlus 6 using stock firmware zip file and TWRP:

Boot into TWRP recovery on your OnePlus 6 by powering off your phone.  Then hold down Volume Up and Power buttons until you see the fastboot menu.  Then use Volume keys to select “Recovery Menu” and hit the Power button to enter TWRP recovery.

VERY IMPORTANT, use the Wipe menu to do a factory reset!  If you don’t do this, sometimes you will end up in a bootloop and stock recovery sometimes doesn’t wipe afterwards.  Best way to avoid bootloop is simply just do a factory reset and you will boot 100% of the time.

Next, simply install the stock firmware zip file.  And DO NOT UNZIP the firmware file as sometimes that can happen when using Mac.  The file should end in “zip” otherwise TWRP will not recognize it.

Flashing should take about 5 minutes and when done, simply reboot.  Your phone should now have stock recovery, stock firmware, and everything stock.

If you want to re-lock your bootloader(perhaps for re-selling your phone on eBay or Craigslist), then follow the bootloader lock guide on our forum here.
