Los Angeles 4G LTE Speed Test! [AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon]

Well, since I am here in Los Angeles for the week, I figure to do a 4G speed test on all U.S. major networks including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon.

Los Angeles gets pretty good 4G LTE coverage for all the four networks, it seems the biggest difference is with the download and upload speeds.

In the area I tested on Hollywood Blvd. (near Thai Town on the other side of Hollywood), Verizon came up on top with whopping download/upload speeds, followed by T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T.

Now, AT&T was only getting 2 bars during this specific test so you can expect AT&T 4G LTE speeds to be much higher similar to Verizon when it gets full bars. Otherwise, all other 3 networks were getting full signal.

Overall, my experience has been best for Verizon followed by AT&T, T-Mobile, then Sprint as for overall coverage around L.A. county.

What’s my daily driver? I use Verizon the most since I still have an unlimited grandfathered plan and they have the best coverage/download speeds.

Of course, for those of you looking for great unlimited service, I would probably choose T-Mobile any day over Sprint if you live in L.A. area.  Also note that T-Mobile provides a “gap” network between 4G LTE and edge through its HSPA+ service, which is also quite fast. As for Sprint, they also provide good 3G service to cover the “gap” but it’s nowhere near the speeds you can get with T-Mobile’s HSPA+.  Also, let me note that overall, T-Mobile 4G LTE coverage was quite good throughout Los Angeles area versus Sprint, which dropped to 3G often and very spotty.

The best networks aren’t the ones with the fastest 4G LTE coverage/speeds but ones that provide great backup network (such as HSPA+) when your phone is outside the 4G LTE area in my opinion.

But if you had the money to spend or didn’t use over 2GB of data monthly, AT&T and Verizon is your best bet as they have more towers and faster download speeds.
