Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM + Root for Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10!

Android 5.0 Lollipop is finally here!  This is the “official” Lollipop released by Google and it is now available for all Nexus devices as a flashable ROM.

In general, Android 5.0 Lollipop”supercharges” your Nexus device, especially if you have an older Nexus device like the original Nexus 7 tablet or the Nexus 4 smartphone.  Major changes include new Material Design theme for the UI, new Material Design keyboard, super-fast UI, full multi-user support, and much cleaner overall OS.

Attaining root is easy, just install ROM and the latest version of SuperSU.  There are still some compatibility issues on some root apps but give it some time and app developers should have them all compatible with Android 5.0 eventually.

Is it usable as daily driver?  Yes, you won’t be disappointed as this is the final version not a preview like last time.  You can expect much better performance, battery life, and new features.

If you have a Nexus device and you haven’t tried the official Android 5.0 Lollipop, knock yourself out this week(end) and enjoy the latest software advances in Android today with root!

Installation instructions:

You must have a rooted Nexus device with CWM or TWRP recovery installed. If you don’t, please see:

Once you have a rooted Nexus device with CWM or TWRP installed, you can install the ROM as usual.

NOTE: Make sure you have CWM v6.0.4.3 or TWRP v2.6.3.3 or HIGHER! (Otherwise installation will fail!)

Reboot into CWM or TWRP recovery, do factory reset/data wipe, install ROM, install SuperSU v2.30 and reboot.

If you are missing Play Store, reboot into CWM or TWRP recovery then install Gapps (see above for download section).

If you don’t get the Lollipop launcher after installing, simply install “Google Now Launcher” app from Play Store.

Q: My 3G/4G LTE data is not working!!!
A: See How to Fix 3G/4G LTE data by Manually Setting APN on Android!

Q: I don’t have Play Store nor any of the Google apps!
A: You forgot to install Gapps, reboot into recovery and install it! (See above for download.)

Q: The ROM is not booting!
A: Try formatting /system and re-install ROM, sometimes the system partition gets corrupt and you may have to try 2 or 3 times before the ROM boots.

Hey, I tried flashing lollipop on my Nexus 7 original 3g. I’m using TWRP v., but the installation still failes. Any help?

    • Kim says:

1.Make sure you don’t have any app that has device admin rights for the tablet (most likely Android Device Manager)
2.Uninstall supersu (or whatever superuser app you are using)
      3.Revert back to stock recovery
4.Restart tablet and then update to 5.0

Basically you have to remove root access first before you can do the update

Tried this on my Nexus 7 2013 and it says
    E:Unable to open zip file.
    Error flashing zip ‘/usb-otg/ROMs/Nexus7/Lollipop/’
    Updating partition details…
    Failed (in red).

Just an FYI, when I upgraded my TWRP to version I wasn’t able to browse usb-otg or even internal storage…had to use version Even tried with clockwork mod, but it failed as well.

    Any ideas?

I have a rooted 5.0 Lollipop Nexus 7 2013 WiFi (flo) using the stock ROM download from above and TWRP 2.7 recovery. I’m now getting the OTA message for 5.0.1 update. When will a flashable rooted ROM be available for this device? Can I just unroot through SuperSU, update by OTA and re-root somehow? Or is there a way to disable OTA notification in the meantime? I’m fairly new to rooting Android so please forgive my noobness.
