CM12.1 ROM for OnePlus One! [Android 5.1]

Are you just tired of waiting for OnePlus One to release Lollipop update?  Perhaps by the time you get it, you may have a new phone already.

But no worries, if you are rooted like myself, you can enjoy all the goodness of open-source and custom ROMs and enjoy CM12.1 with Android 5.1 today.  Luckily, OnePlus One is one of the earliest Android devices to receive CM12.1 ROM.

Of course, this isn’t an official ROM from CyanogenMod team, it’s an unofficial build by XDA user Crazy_Boy^.   The ROM itself runs quite smooth though, so far no bugs and everything working out of the box.

As for performance?   Boy, Android 5.1 runs super-fast, if you haven’t tried Android 5.1, definitely give this guy a go.  As a far as custom kernels go, it’s still in development for Android 5.1 but as soon as I find a good one, I will definitely have an update also.

And if you are already running Android 5.1 on the OnePlus One, do let us know and share your experience with your custom ROM in the comment box below!

Download CM12.1 ROM for OnePlus One

Download Android 5.1 Gapps (DO NOT USE older 5.0/5.0.1/5.0.2, you will FC!)

Installation is easy, just as usual.

You must have a rooted OnePlus One of course, you can follow my OnePlus One root guide to root.

For root, you MUST enable root for apps and adb, see How to Enable Root on CM12!

Then follow my universal TWRP install guide  and also make sure to install the firmware upgrade zip file in TWRP before installing the ROM.  Reboot into TWRP recovery, format /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache, install the firmware upgrade zip file, install the ROM, install the Gapps, then reboot.  The AK kernel is included in the ROM so you don’t need to flash it separately.  That’s it!

is the 5.1 a CM nightly? Does the version you downloaded have any issues like battery drain or wifi/mobile network connectivity? I’m currently on CM12 – Android 5.0.2 and it doesnt support LTE as yet – so I’m using 3G setting to be able to make calls & send texts. Please help and thanks in advance. Also, if I install 5.1 through CM Rom Downloader – do I still need to flash gapps after flashing a 5.1 nightly?

Love this rom, feels way to good to be an early nightly like it is, runs like butter, haven’t come across a single bug in the 3 days I’ve used it!
