While I was doing HighOnAndroid SOT Test with my Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 the other day, I noticed something very interesting, that the brightness on the Galaxy S6 was nearly twice brighter than the HTC One M9 with both set to average brightness setting.

Well, I figured that those tests may be unfair since the S6 is much brighter so I ordered a LUX light meter.  This LUX light meter measures the amount of light through a circular sensor.

Upon doing the LUX brightness test, indeed the Galaxy S6 was much brighter, in fact 48% brighter than the HTC  One M9 at full brightness setting and 2.35 times brighter at average brightness setting!

Also, the Galaxy S6 proved to be much brighter than the Galaxy S6 Edge, this may be due to the curved screen on the S6 Edge.  And yes, Galaxy S6 is also much brighter than its predecessor Galaxy Note 4 by 23%.

With the background set to complete black, the AMOLED screens on the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and Note 4 all scored 0 lux while both the LCD screens on the HTC One M9 and LG G3 scored 4 lux.  But this does tell  you even with black background, there’s is definitely energy savings for any type of screen.  So, your
