Huawei Mate 8 vs Galaxy Note 5 Camera Comparison!

In this comparison, we will be comparing the Huawei Mate 8 versus the Galaxy Note 5 cameras.  Since Galaxy Note 5 is one of the best cameras on a smartphone, I thought this would be a good test.  For test location, I chose my local beach near sunset since low light is where you can really tell the difference between cameras.

For back camera, the Mate 8’s camera does fairly well in most situations with a slightly larger angle than the Note 5.  I felt like the Mate 8 lacked dynamic range, sharpness/detail, and colors compared to the Note 5.    This result was same for both photos and videos.  Overall, the Note 5 does a bit better job at processing raw photos and videos look much sharper with detail.  Mate 8 did however did much better at stabilizing videos.  Now, for this test I only used 1080P for both smartphones but since the Note 5 also does 4K, Note 5 will definitely come up on top if I took 4K video and scaled it down to 1080P, another advantage of having 4K mode.  I fully believe Huawei Mate 8 is capable of 4K video recording, let’s hope they add it on with a software update.  But for right now, Note 5 clearly wins for overall better photos/videos minus stabilization.

For front camera, the Mate 8 ousted the Note 5 with pretty amazing results.  I really dig the selfies taken with the Mate 8 as you get nice depth of field (blurring of background) while the Note 5 just gives you plain all-in-focus photos.  This also turned out the same for the front camera videos.  The Mate 8 wins for having clearer, better photos/videos for the front camera.  If you use your front camera more often than the back camera, Mate 8 perhaps could be a good choice.

As for audio, the Note 5 clearly wins as you get the nice stereo sound along with background noise filter that’s hard to beat.  I actually haven’t seen any other smartphone that has better microphones than the Note 5 yet so this isn’t surprising.

I will have to do further testing but for right now the Note 5 wins for better back camera while Mate 8 does much better selfies.
