How to Install Pixel 2 Portrait Mode(Back/Front WORKING) on Any Galaxy Phone!

For those of you who want to get Google Pixel 2’s portrait mode on your Galaxy phone(supports all Galaxy phones including Galaxy S9+, S9, Note 8, S8, S8 Plus, S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge, etc…etc… running Android 7.0 Nougat or 8.0 Oreo), you can now easily get it without having to buy the Pixel 2.  While newer Samsung phones like S9+ and Note 8 have live focus feature, Google’s HDR camera does much better job with portrait mode allowing you to be also much closer to your subject.  Best of all, you also get front portrait mode working, which I think is the coolest feature.

Supported phones:

  • All Galaxy phones including Galaxy S9+, S9, Note 8, S8, S8 Plus, S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge, etc…etc… running Android 7.0 Nougat or 8.0 Oreo, Galaxy Note 7/FE also works.

Step 1. Installation is easy, first make sure you are running Android 7.0/7.1/7.1.1/7.1.2 Nougat or Android 8.0/8.1 Oreo.  Root is NOT REQUIRED and works on all Exynos or Snapdragon devices.

Step 2. Download the Google HDR Camera at APKQuick.comDirect Download Link and install the APK file as shown in video tutorial.

Step 3. Open the camera and go into Settings->Advanced and make sure “Config camera HDR+” is set to “Nexus 6 HDR+ Auto”.

Step 4. (FOR SNAPDRAGON ONLY) If using Snapdragon device, make sure the options for S7 Exynos are TURNED OFF like shown below.

Now, try taking a photo with the portrait mode, it should work well.  If force-closes, try going into Settings again and close the app using App Recents button and restart camera.

Once you get it working, it will work well.  And yes, HDR+ also works very well so you can now use that too.

Q&A

Q: It is very laggy on my Snapdragon Galaxy S9/S9 Plus!
A: Sorry, this Portrait mode Google HDR camera is currently only fully-compatible with Exynos models of Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus.  But when there is a new version that is compatible with Snapdragon models, we will update this page so please stay patient, thank you!

Q: I have purple/pink images!!!
A: Make sure you force close the app(Hit recents then swipe away the camera app) in Settings of the app and restart the app.  Try a few times and this will go away.
